“What I can photograph, I do not paint.”

With SALVE!, Berlin-based artist Andreas Thomas presents for the first time his works from 2021 to 2025. His pictures address a world out of joint, drawing on everyday details, abysses, fables and realities that seem displaced in time. 

The exhibition includes cycles such as the Rota series, with its deserted playgrounds, rooftop cats and hidden naval base, and the Sylt series, with scenes of tourism, displacement and island myths, while The Caravan or Leviathan opens up human history, animal suffering and epic storytelling.

Down in the Vault, the exhibition is accompanied by a film on his family and the Black Forest, the formative landscape that continues to inspire his dystopian and strange worlds.

Mit SALVE! präsentiert der in Berlin lebende Künstler Andreas Thomas erstmals seine zwischen 2021 und 2025 entstandenen Werke. Seine Bilder verhandeln eine aus den Fugen geratene Welt und greifen auf alltägliche Details, Abgründe, Fabelhaftes und eine Realität zurück, die aus der Zeit gefallen scheint.

Die Ausstellung umfasst Zyklen wie die Rota-Serie mit ihren verwaisten Spielplätzen, den Dachkatzen und der verborgenen Marinebasis sowie die Sylt-Serie mit Szenen von Tourismus, Verdrängung und Inselmythen, während Werke wie Die Karawane oder Leviathan Menschheitsgeschichte, Tierleid und episches Erzählen aufrufen.

Im Tresor wird die Ausstellung von einem Film über seine Familie und den Schwarzwald begleitet – jenes ursprüngliche Kraftfeld, das Thomas bis heute zu seinen dystopischen und skurrilen Bildwelten inspiriert.
