Sofie Vân Anh: Traces of her

Sofie Vân Anh’s first solo exhibition explores untold stories and quiet moments.
Her paintings’ subjects move between women, memory, and the places she has passed through. Some of her paintings draw on her grandmother’s style as a young woman, and on old Vietnamese stamps and photographs from the early 20th century. These small fragments of the past left her wondering about the women behind them – who they were, and the stories she never got to hear. Never having truly known her grandmother feels, in a way, like getting to know someone she has always loved. Through painting, she builds her own connection to these untold stories, giving them new life on a larger scale. Her other works explore moments of stillness: women at peace, quiet connections with nature, and the simple beauty of being.
